The items listed below are all unique, hands-on art experiences and custom mural commissions that will be bid on at the Annual Art Auction on April 26th. Click on each item for more information.

Art of Clay with Naysan McIlhargey

Art of Clay with Naysan McIlhargey

Opening Bid: $1,500

A private, hands-on pottery experience with Persian-inspired refreshments for up to 12 by The Contemporary Dayton Member Artist Naysan McIlhargey at his home and studio, Miami Valley Pottery in Yellow Springs, OH. Twice a year Naysan fires up his outdoor walk-in oven with local wood and places into it his elegant yet rustic designs inspired by ancient cultures. Up to 2,500 degrees later he pulls out vases, urns, dishes, and mortars and pestles. Get a behind the scenes tour of his studio, the Anagama Woodfired Kiln, and the wood fired pizza oven that he and his father built. 

Must be scheduled with The Contemporary Dayton to take place on a Saturday morning between June 2019-May 30, 2020.

The Art of Mosaic with Jes McMillan

The Art of Mosaic with Jes McMillan

Opening Bid: $1,500

Mosaic is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, tile or other materials. Learn about the wide range of mosaic techniques while enjoying a hands-on art experience with local artist Jes McMillan, owner of The McMillan Gallery and Founder of The Mosaic Institute of Greater Dayton. Enjoy a private, 2-hour session for up to 10 people with the master mosaic maker as she teaches the beautiful craft of Mosaic and assists you in creating your own small work of art to treasure. Refreshments will be served.

Must be scheduled with The Contemporary Dayton to take place on a Saturday morning between June 2019 through March 2020.

Artmaking & Bourbon Sipping with Terry Welker & Ron Rollins

Opening Bid: $1,500

A private art-making and bourbon-sipping party for up to 10 at the Kettering studio of The Contemporary Dayton Member Artists Terry Welker & Ron Rollins. Spend a few hours at the studio making paintings with Ron and bending metal with Terry to create your own works of art. Enjoy snacks, tunes and adult beverages all the while. Make art and have fun – what could be better? 

Must be scheduled through The Contemporary Dayton between May 2019-March 2020.

Fantasy Lands by Mural Machine

Fantasy Lands by Mural Machine

Opening Bid: $1,500

Winning Bidders can bid on the opportunity to have a custom mural designed and painted for their home, office, or to be donated to a local charity by Member Artists Mural Machine. Murals cannot exceed 8 x 12 feet and must be located in the Miami Valley. 

The Mural Machine is the artistic duo of ETCH (Chris Weyrich) and Tiffany Allyn Clark. Working in the Dayton arts scene for a combined 30 years, they have created brightly colored flowers, treehouses, carnival scenes and “fantasy landscapes” for such groups as the East End Community Center, the City of Dayton, Kroger Stores, and numerous businesses and non-profits across the region. Some of their most recognizable pieces are the “Love You” mural on Keowee Street and the “Garden” at Nordale Park that strive for community connection.

 

Mural must be scheduled with The Contemporary Dayton between June 2019-May 30, 2020.

Giant All-Pencil Animals by Andrew Dailey

Opening Bid: $1,500

Winning Bidders can bid on the opportunity to have a custom mural designed and painted for their home, office, or to be donated to a local charity by Member Artists Andrew Dailey. Murals cannot exceed 8 x 12 feet and must be located in the Miami Valley. 

Andrew Dailey, who primarily works in graphite to create large-scale, meticulously drawn organic forms, plant life and/or animals, thinks of his work as explorations transformation, change and renewal. He most recently completed 2 animal-based murals for The Co’s rear “Fountain Gallery.” He received his MFA from Miami University, Oxford and BFA from Wright State University. He has won numerous awards for his work in exhibitions throughout the region and serves currently as the Cultural Arts Program Supervisor for the City of Kettering.

Hot Glass with Jim DeLange

Hot Glass with Jim DeLange

Opening Bid: $1,500

A private, hands-on glass blowing experience for 6 by The Contemporary Dayton Member Artist, Jim Delange of Glass Axis Studios, Franklinton Arts District, Columbus, OH. From gathering the molten glass from the furnace, to working it on the pontil pipe and glory hole, to its final cool down process in the annealing kiln, you will have a new appreciation for this centuries-old art form. Get up close and assist Jim in blowing the glass, while he narrates the science behind it and the artistic vision that guides his process. 

Must be scheduled with The Contemporary Dayton to take place on a Sunday morning between June 2019 through March 2020.

Soul Portrait by Morris Howard

Opening Bid: $1,500

Winning Bidders can bid on the opportunity to have a custom mural designed and painted for their home, office, or to be donated to a local charity by Member Artist Morris Howard. Murals cannot exceed 8 x 12 feet and must be located in the Miami Valley.

A Dayton native, Howard moved back to the city from Georgia three years ago. Since returning to Dayton, Morris has been welcomed into the area’s art community. He created Red Girl & Redbird across the street from The Neon Movies; a “Soul-Train” line at The Co; and most recently the popular Dayton, Land of Funk murals behind the Neon. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1994, Morris enrolled at the Art Institute of Atlanta and with an Associate of Arts Degree in Visual Communications. He teaches art for K12 Gallery and TEJAS at JCARE, one of the Montgomery County Juvenile Courts facilities where K12 coordinates art classes for court involved teens.
